Central Otago

Central Otago is the pin-up of New Zealand tourism because its alpine scenery. It is the best place for skiing, hiking, mountain biking… The industry about wine production is young indeed the first plantations were in 1864.

In this beautiful region, there are many microclimates with hot days and cold nights and those conditions create wonderful aromatics, particularly Riesling and Pinot Gris, but the best wine there is the Pinot Noir which accounts for more than 75% of the region’s planting.

To taste the terroir, you need two good days with around 30 wineries open to visitors. For visitors short on time, you could focus on the Gibbston Valley and we suggest you:
